Regional Public Transportation Authority

Our Responsibility to You

Valley Regional Transit is the Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA) for Ada County and Canyon County. According to Idaho Code, an RPTA’s responsibilities include:

  • being accountable to local governments;
  • having exclusive jurisdiction over publicly-funded transportation;
  • providing public transportation services;
  • encouraging private transportation programs; and
  • coordinating both public and private transportation programs.

Valley Regional Transit manages contracts for the operation of fixed-route bus services, on-demand bus service, and ACCESS paratransit service. Fixed-route bus services consist of 18 fixed-line routes, and four intercounty routes between Ada County and Canyon County.

The VRT Board of Directors is composed of up to 29 members. These members are publicly elected or appointed officials from each jurisdiction. The Board represents 19 jurisdictions in the two counties and a service population of about 650,000 people.

Valley Regional Transit’s mission is to leverage, develop, provide, and manage transportation resources and to coordinate the effective and efficient delivery of comprehensive transportation choices to the region’s citizens.
