Cranksgiving 2023 a Big Success

The eighth annual Cranksgiving – Boise’s Thanksgiving-themed scavenger hunt on bicycles – saw 183 participants and 39 teams on Saturday, November 18th. During the event, costumed riders travel around town answering trivia questions about Boise art and history while gathering items necessary to fill a Thanksgiving food box. The boxes are donated to St. Vincent de Paul for distribution to families in need throughout the Treasure Valley. Each box feeds a family of six, so Cranksgiving is helping to feed over 230 people this Thanksgiving.  Trophies were awarded for the fastest time, biggest turkey, and best team costume. The award winners included:

  • 1st Place – Hugo’s Gringos
  • 2nd Place – All About the Baste
  • 3rd Place – Santa & the Chaindeer
  • Biggest Turkey – Hugo’s Gringos (24.37 pounds)
  • Best Team Costume – The Talking Turkey Heads

Cranksgiving Boise was sponsored by Valley Regional Transit and ACHD Commuteride. The following businesses provided some of the food items necessary to fill the Thanksgiving good boxes:

  • Idaho River Sports
  • George’s Cycles
  • Roots Zero Waste Market
  • White Dog Brewing
  • The Handlebar
  • Payette Brewing Cycle Team
  • Charlies Produce
  • Gallery 601

Each year the St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving food box program gathers and distributes roughly 2,500 food boxes for families in need in the Treasure Valley. Cranksgiving is just one small part of the effort that feeds over 11,000 people each year.
