Valley Regional Transit to update bus stop signs, route colors

Comparing current and updated bus stop signs
Beginning April 1, VRT will be introducing new bus stop signs and route colors for increased passenger information and stop visibility. Sign updates are the first change within the agency’s Better Bus initiative to improve the Treasure Valley’s transit network. The signs – which are bigger, brighter, and feature more passenger information – aim to make navigating VRT’s bus network more user-friendly and visible. Stops will also feature information boxes with details about each bus route and information about tools to help riders navigate the system, such as VRT’s ETA Spot app for live-tracking buses and the Umo Mobility app for trip planning and account-based fare payment. As the public transportation provider for Ada and Canyon counties, VRT provides service with 22 bus routes, two on-demand service zones, and more than 700 bus stops. Signs will be replaced at select stops over the next two months, with all stops replaced by the time VRT introduces its new bus network on June 3rd. No changes will be made to bus routes until June 3rd. “Enhancing the rider experience is a major priority for us right now, and new bus stop signs are the first step towards a better bus system,” said Elaine Clegg, Chief Executive Officer at VRT. “The updated bus stop signs and route colors are part of our ongoing efforts to bring more meaningful passenger information to bus stops so riders can better navigate their community connections.” With this update, routes will be color-coded based on how often a bus arrives, providing riders with a quick reference and simple way to recognize bus routes and arrivals. New colors will be visible on both the redesigned bus stop signs and route maps. Valley Regional Transit encourages passengers to familiarize themselves with the new signs and route colors. Detailed information, including updated route maps and schedules, will soon be available on the VRT website and at transit centers. VRT will also be conducting outreach and hosting community events in April and May to ensure the public is ready for service changes starting June 3rd.
